Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Thu Apr 8 20:20:34 2010 Sunday, June 6 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.The Lo-V’s Take a Spin! $45, Children (5-17) $20, Museum Members $30, Children (5 – 17) $15 Includes New York Transit Museum admission. The first passenger run of the Museum’s Low Voltage trailer car 4902 in over 35 years (October, 1973) is the highlight of this “technical tour” of the subway system. Starting at the Transit Museum, this tour offers ample photographic opportunities for the most dedicated fans among us! Covering considerable mileage in Brooklyn and Manhattan, we’ll ride tracks not normally used for passenger service on portions of the A line and various elevated routes in the Bronx. There will be a stop for lunch; food is not included in the tour price. This tour is only for the strong of bladder! Saturday, July 31 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Coney Island Bound! $45, Children (5 -17) $20, Museum Members $30, Children (5 – 17) $15 Includes New York Transit Museum admission. Join us on our ever popular boardwalk-bound Coney Island Nostalgia Train, made up of R1/9 cars of the Independent Subway System. We’ll begin our excursion at the Transit Museum, where you’ll have exclusive access to the exhibits and store before the Museum is open to the public. Then ‘All Aboard’ the trains on the Museum’s platform level for a scenic, 2 hour ride to Coney Island on tracks above and below ground. Visit the amusement park, take a dip in the ocean, and enjoy all the area has to offer, or stay on the train for additional rides. Baseball fans can skip the train ride back and attend a Brooklyn Cyclones vs. Staten Island Yankees game, which starts at 6 p.m. at nearby MCU Park. Cyclones game not included in tour price. Saturday, August 21 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To THE ROCKAWAYS, BY RAIL AND BUS! $45, Children (5 – 17) $20, Museum Members $30, Children (5 – 17) $15 Includes New York Transit Museum admission. Take in the summer seaside on our first ever Nostalgia train and bus trip! This special combination caper will feature both the R1/9 cars and the Museum’s vintage buses from the 1940’s and ‘50’s. Meet at the Museum where our vintage rolling stock will be ready and waiting for you to board. Then it’s off to Rockaway Park in a spectacular ride over Jamaica Bay, arriving just in time for lunch. Upon arrival, stroll to the local beach or ride one of our vintage buses to Gateway National Park. You can spend all afternoon enjoying the beach, or take turns riding each vintage bus. Ride the vintage buses back to their depots! Reserve with your ticket for an extra $5. |

From what I hear, it is very possible. This is the first "fan trip" in years. The last few NYTM all had a destination and this one does not. Should be a great trip. |

The trips that they did the last few years like the Arnine trip to the Museum on Natural History and 207th Street were meant to be for both railfans and families. I'm glad they have one that will only attract serious people for once. I will have to hurry and get my ticket soon though, the trips have not even been announced to members not to mention the general public. |

I like trips 1 and 3. The only disappointment is that the TOMC was left out of the agenda all together for this year. I am certainly glad they decided to pizzazz these trips up. It has been long overdue IMO. Normally, you would board the train at a certain location-ride to a destination-hang out there for a 3 hour tour and then reboard and head back to the original destination.I also see the prices of these excursions have risen from $30-45. Now only if they can pizzazz the Holiday Excursions in December then we're good to go. But this is a good start. |

FWIW the holiday trains are fair game for the type of photography I do but the TM trips are not. I will ride the LoV trip because I don't have good high-res pics of those cars, and the trip appears to have photo stops planned. Unfortunately I won't have any friends with me :( |

The TM wants exorbitant fees even for one photographer with one model, which is why the low budget amateurs like myself only do this on the holiday train. These are "trade" shoots - the model gets prints for her portfolio - no money changes hands. For some reason the TM thinks that there are big $$$ to be made selling the prints, when in fact you barely make enough to reimburse you for the cost of buying lunch for the model. Selling less than a dozen prints at train shows for a couple of dollars each does not a profit make :) |

Sorry I disagree. The TM is putting out these trips despite reduced support. There are always families who are interested in taking their kids to these trips so the younger generation can explore what the older generation rode. Imagine if there were NO trips at all??????? These are not just for foamers, these trips are for everyone - - you either like the route and rolling stock or just put up and shut up. Think of these kids - - and alos think of those shocked people seeing the train pass by. |

Danny has a point though. If they can run the Low Vs and the Arnines, they could run the TOMC as well. My only theory is that the TOMC (R33 MLs) are in bad shape mechanically. Not that I don't like the Arnines but the feeling is the same for the TOMC on the IRT as the BMT and IND are for the Arnines. One can say Oh, I remember riding the 7 line when they had Red Trains on them as opposed to the units they are running today. Yes, they are not as historic as the Arnines are but they still a piece of rolling history. |

Be greatful that ANYTHING runs. The choice is yours --- either ride or just skip it outright. The TOMC looks worn and in the very least should get some cosmetic work.-Stef |

They will most likely not run the TOMC as it doesn't go through Herald Square. Remember they run them mainly for the shoppers. It is not even clear if there will be holiday specials this year due to $$. |

I may or may not have work so right now I am not certain if I will be able to make these trips or not until the last week or 2. I agree with you that the Arnines are better than nothing at all. I just never thought the TOMC were in that bad of shape. Now I know why they are not running. |

Show the A Division some Love ThisHoliday, Run The TOMC and The Low Vs This December Um... No. The IRT is far too busy to run an occasional holiday train. It would have to run the entire route rather than shuttle back and forth in midtown where it could be seen by shoppers. The TOMC cannot run on the (V) or truncated (M) route because of the gaps. It is one thing for fans to ride it across B div, but not to have it in service with families and kids who do not know about railroad safety. Therefore, no, the route picks the place where the Holiday train will run, and that picks the kinds of equipment that can be used. A railfan weekend is a different affair. ROAR |
