Posted by TransitChuckG on Tue Jan 21 17:31:13 2014 From a friend on Facebook:Here is BSMs newest addition. New Jersey Transit PCC. number 26. It was delivered last Wednesday. We couldn't say anything until now because other museums are getting similar cars. Number 26 was built in 1949 for Twin Cities Transit in Minneapolis as number 314, and was sold to Public Service of New Jersey in 1953. It ran in Newark N.J. until August of 2001, when replaced by new LRVs. It had been stored until it was moved to BSM last Wednesday. It is hoped to be running by the middle of March. This is a great addition to our collection!

That's why it can run on the former Erie RR Orange Branch along with freight trains (i.e. when it got turned into "Newark Light Rail"). |

They converted car #2168 from Philly gauge, 5'-2 1/4" to Baltimore gauge , 5' 4 1/2" with (2) 1.125" spacer donuts. on on each side . the axle had enough flat to do this. |

Yep ... and the loopy riding them. :)Cast my worthless vote though for the Public Service paint scheme. You guys are gonna get a lot more nostalgic visitors from Joisey then you will from Minneapolis. And lots of history to "Public Service" as well - they became PSE&G, and rumors are that "Cities Service" which used the same triangle logo way back when might have been part of that operation as well. Lot of history in that old paint scheme. |

Back before the Newark Subway's PCC era, they had double-ended cars, but still used loops. Nice pic here on the old Subtalk website of route 21 (ran into the subway back then) at the Mississippi Avenue loop in West Orange (today a bus loop); pity this route didn't make it into the PCC era. |
