Time is fast approaching for the end of Manual Block System (MBS) on the MNR Danbury Branch, as signalization of the branch commences on September 13th, which will introduce CTC/CSS (Centralized Traffic Control/Cab Signal System) to the Danbury Branch. We catch some shots on the branch at Branchville, CT this past Sunday afternoon, as the time of MBS winds down!!

Shots of, and from, Branchville Station.......

Looking south......

Looking north, towards the Branchville Siding......

Old semaphore train order signal mast.......

Old station building, now a coffee shop and bakery........

View, looking south, of the station, from Depot Road grade crossing, facing the Branchville Siding south switch (trailing point).......

Depot Road crossing (no gates, flashers only).......

When in doubt, and the MNR C&S personnel (Communications & Signals Department) have no other means of getting around, I guess these are left in reserve behind the relay box.......

Block Limit (BL) "HILL", soon to be a thing of the past, along with (not shown) BL BERK (north of CP 241), BL GLOVE (Merritt 7), BL WILT (Wilton), BL DAN (South of Danbury Station) and BL CANAL (North of Danbury Station)!!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

BL "HILL" and an old catenary support tower, looking a lot like it is on it's last leg!!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Closer views of the Branchville Siding South Switch (possibly where a CP 412 would be, as the New Canaan Branch uses the 300-numbers for CP identification, and Waterbury uses the 500-numbers for CP identification, with the north switch of the Branchville Siding being possibly CP 413, unless the siding remains a manual, hand thrown switch at each end. We'll see what this ultimately ends up being!!), for the time being a manual, hand thrown switch (with switch lock).......

Switch identification marker, MP 12.7.......
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And with a ringing of the bells, the flashing of the lights, you all know I wasn't letting this visit go without a train appearing here, did you??? Well, without further ado, MNR Train #6846, South Norwalk to Danbury, BL20GH #130 north end, Shoreliner Cab #6304 south end......

Now arriving!!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Gettin' the passengers off safely in the station........
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

All aboard, and #6846 is on the move north.......
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Blastin' on thru Depot Road, with #130 singin' her sweet tune for all to hear 'cross the Land!!!.......
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Clear north of BL HILL.......
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And channeling her inner-Alco, #130, and Train #6846 chugs noward north towards Redding, Bethel and Danbury!!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And the quiet returns to Branchville.....for now!!!

Thank you all for viewing!! Hope you all enjoyed!! Next time I bring you action here, there will be "Flashie-greens" and no more paperwork (Form Ms) as Manual Block System (MBS) will be a thing of the past, and the good ol' boys down at the OCC (Operations Control Center) in GCT, and MNR RTC (Rail Traffic Controller) District F, will have this ol' branch totally under their direct control!!

Enjoy!! :-)

Many thanks, good buddy!! This past weekend was extremely photogenic, bro, and you know yours truly was busy as a result (plus woman's days out meant railfan day out for me!! :-D).

I shall post the rest as the week progresses!! And my time on here has been scarce due to this crappy (time-wise) conductor gig I landed on!! :-P (1027 to 2117!!!!! x-p).....ALL FOR $$$$$ and the weekends off!! I am bidding my Stamford extra board spot back, as I have already bidded it back!! Lesson learned....never give up a good thing when you got it!!

Time for me to call it a night, as another long day awaits me tomorrow!!! Nite nite good buddy and all!! Tune in again tomorrow and throughout the week!! More of my weekend fanning to come!! :-)

Well that's nice. We going to see 90 mph on the Danbury Branch too, or is the track class too low for that?

Nice shots, BTW. Would have been even nicer with the catenary back up and MUs doing the run.

Disagree. Paul happens to be one of the top photographers here. I wish I had his photography skills. If I even had 1/8th of the photography skill he has I'd be happy as then I would be good.

We can respectfully disagree then. Shame others can't do the same thing.

Hey, I'll take you out photographing some time and you'll leave with more than 1/8th of his skill :)

My experience with the Danbury is that it's SLOW. I always assumed there was a 40-60 MPH speed limit. Only the Greenport scoot seems to move slower over distance.

Why not? The tracks don't look to be in that bad of shape.

The branch has great track, but any speed over 50 and it gets real rough.
There is not one mile of straight rail there.
The branch when constructed was max 30 mph, now its 50 but they can't super elevate to much , due to stone trains of P@W.
They(CDOT) think that 60 or 70 is possibility but I for one think its doubtfull.

Metro north is not currently planning to use multilevels on Diersel services.
The plannig of Bi-levels is for dedicated Electric push pull trains on Harlem and Hudson Lines only.
The electric locomotives will be third rail only , no diesel or ac capabilities.
