The only place where there were stairs was at Fresh Pond, and that station looked abandoned even when it was a "real" station. The other stations were merely a sign on a grade crossing. For the early 90's, some of them didn't even have a sign! |

It didn't change at all except for the sign removal. It didn't look like a station even back when it was used. Here's all the stations in their pathetic glory, that I took around 1993 or 1994: Richmond Hill: Glendale: Fresh Pond: Fresh Pond, the Eastbound platform is to the right of the train, and the westbound "platform" is on the left by the wall. THIS was an OPERATING station at the time of this photo, lol: Haberman - Notice something "else" missing in the background: Penny Bridge: And of course Long Island City: |

There could be a bunch of deadheads that are "worker only". I remember a LOT of deadhead moves between Jamaica and LIC via Montauk through the day. |

But worker only deadhead moves do not require two-car or longer platforms. A single door long high platform as used before should suffice. |

Why would they receive public money for that? Private subsidies from places like Chelsea Piers are possible but I don't know.Weekday Fulton Ferry Landing commuter service receives subsidy from One Brooklyn Bridge. Maybe other DUMBO condos contribute as well. |

It's a good thing that my son is a bit older and doesn't need much attention. I couldn't have done the same on the trip to Montauk two years ago when he was a first grader. |

Unfortunately as Pigs pointed out, there are no distinction between tickets via Lower Montauk and via Hunterspoint. In fact I could use them Monday if I wanted to. So it's hardly worth more than a personal souvenir. But that's OK. It will be a souvenir for me and my son.I also think that the thermal printing won't last very long and will eventually fade away. |

The ticket I originally bought sat in my bag for nearly 4 months and was in pretty bad shape when I finally had to use it.I can understand that a conductor would not normally expect someone would pay the astronomical cost of a peak LIC/Jamaica ticket (it was $7.50 in 2007, IIRC). |

To be fair to the LIRR, at least there was a sign. NJT didn't even have that at the old Finderne station on the RVL. |

Many NJ Transit bus stops didn't have any signs and quite a few still don't and local businesses' people don't know where the stops are either because they never use buses. They only know there is service because they see them. |

When I last rode that train before this Friday, it was the first week of NY Waterway's non-stop service and the ferry was free and there was no TVM at LIC. The conductor promptly came to pick up the fare before Jamaica. |

Yeah, another reason it's not highly used. In the early 90's when I used to ride from Fresh Pond or Glendale to Long Island City in the mornings a lot, the fare was somewhere around $5, a lot considering the subway fare was only about $1.25 or something like that. |

As I mentioned, in the late 80's and early 90's, they did NOT have signs. It wasn't until around 1994 or 1995 that they put the signs up again. The first years I used the stations, none of them had signs, except for an old run down one at Haberman. Even Richmond Hill didn't have a sign. |
