In the coupled photo neither the BP hose nor what could be a long MR hose are in use on the diesel. But did more work time pass before they took off? The engineer may have had one of these coupled up. MR alone would give breakaway protection and MNR had the M2’s set up so that they could be controlled from BP air alone when being towed.Bill |

I just read an article, I believe it was in Trains, that they were rewriting the inspection rules on steam locomotives to reflect their current usage, rather than continuing to use rules created when steam power was dominant. |

However, if the Arlington Branch is ever reactivated and a freight connection is made, it's a whole new can of worms (clams?).Lee |

Yes, that part was just that boiler tube life would be measured as 60 individual months with service rather than presuming that the passage of 5 years time was all in continuous service. In the old days the locomotives worked year round and 5 sequential years was a simple enough wear gauge. In the museums however use during 2 or 3 months each year will not wear it out in 5 years hence the change to including the layups more closely in the measure. The jurisdiction is still staying with the FRA however.Bill |

No again it was a mistake the 4 engines weren't supposed to be in that scheme. Not sure what scheme they wanted though but the scheme they have was not meant for them. |

Mr Clinton sorry for your obsession, If you don't like my answers, just skip over them, no one is forcing you to read them. Also everything posted on both these forums should be taken with a grain of salt, no answer or statement is 100% correct. I sure never claim my statements are, I do hower like for others to prove me or others wrong, and not just keep harping on he is wrong he is wrong with no proof. |
