A little addition to Dutch's comments....At soon to be closed Atlantic, the diesel cut off & ran light to Tottenville & the R44s ran under their own power to the end of track. Close inspection of the coupling conversion reveals no brakepipe connection or electrical connection of any kind. Communication was done by radio or horn signals. SIRT's BL20G units have no HEP. |

The one most NYCT locos carry is the knuckle to H2C adapter. That's the coupler that was used on most equipment predating the R-142. Most of the cars with the OB or Waugh type coupler carry their own adapter. R-44s never had adapters aboard, though. |

Ah ok, so when a diesel tows and R44 do they use an OH to H2C then an H2C to MCB comp.? I could have sworn that the diesels carry 2 comps. H2C/MCB and OB/MCB but i could be wrong. |

R-44s never get towed :)There are waugh/MCB coupler adapters around so a diesel would use them if necessary. Actually, with every car on the A-Line having an OB/Waugh type coupler, it's not likely that an adapter would be needed. Incidently we rarely tow. Unless there is a strong reason, in NYCT we always push if a train is disabled. |

I still say MNR should make up a Heritage scheme set much as UP has, with a paint scheme from each of the predecessors donned on select locomotives, and yes, I wouldn't mind seeing one of such on a BL-shit too!!NJT should consider that too!! A GP40PH-2 in CNJ, an ALP-46 in a Pennsy scheme, something like that (or whatever creativity inspires!!) :-D |

FRA oversight Unlike the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA), SIRTOA is subject to rules of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) but operates under a waiver which permits it to exempt itself from certain rules of equipment and operation usually required by the FRA.[3][16] This FRA status complicates any plan for combined freight and passenger operation. The SIR shares a similar status with the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) system, which is also an FRA railroad running on a somewhat different waiver. see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staten_Island_Railway |

SIRT lost their connection to the outside rail system when the North Shore line (which connected SIRT to the outside world) was abandoned.
