Weekend 7 line G.O. work has been scrapped - - really. |

Posted by Newkirk Plaza David on Tue Mar 9 11:55:34 2010 Yes really, the remaining three weekends of 7 line work has been "scrapped" - - work has been completed early and normal weekend 7 service to/from Manhattan is expected starting this weekend. |

They did an amazing amount of work for some of the G.O.s they had upwards of 25 work trains, all of them working quite hard, replacing track, replacing ballast, installing rails, chipping away concrete etc. There's still a lot of work left though on the 7, and I mean a lot of work, the track sections north of 45th road are old and need replacement, the queens blvd viaduct trackage is nearly 40 years old and will need replacement, and some track sections between Vernon-Jackson and Times Square need to be chipped out and replaced. But a lot of work has been done in critical areas and most of the tracks along the Roosevelt Avenue portion of the route has been replaced. However once done, then CBTC installation G.O.s begin. So Flushing residents have a long road ahead of them but in turn will get very very reliable service in the near future. |

Yes, and I was taught that el track panels have a life span of 30-40 years, depending on the type of wood used (amazingly there is a type of wood thats highly expensive but has a life span nearly 50 years!!!) So the Queens Viaduct will be replaced within the next 5-10 years is a good safe call but I wouldn't be surprised if the work was done sooner as they upgrade signals and begin upgrades for CBTC along the viaduct. Then again I'm a person who believes in killing two birds with one stone. If you want to get specific the tracks don't have to be really replaced until 2020 perhaps as late as 2025 if you really want to stretch it. So look forward to a Queens Viaduct rehab project somewhere in 2020!! LOL |

Looks like all the complaints from the rich yuppies in LIC were answered by the MTA, whereas complaints in other neighborhoods go unanswered, probably because they never complain to begin with. |
