It would be nice if these Slants (or maybe others, if others are preserved) coyuld be returned to original condition, without all the clutter of chains and guard rails on the sloping ends. As delivered they were sleek and neat in appearance. |

Nothing against slants, but any train should have to wait at least one entire year after it's last run before going to the museum. It's not nostalgic seeing a train that was in service this year. |

It probably would have to wait until more funding comes in. IMHO the TM should try and recruit volunteers to help preserve their cars. This would accelerate restoration efforts. I know at one time IINM they did, but from what I understand they no longer do, but think it would be nice if they could do it again. |

I'm in favor of that plan, but it would be kinda hard to do. They'd have to restore the lights in the middle (I think R40s and R42s had them; I may be confusing them with the R32s and R38s). And they'd have to bring back the doors with the original window length. |

'..problem with the guard rails(I assume you mean Pantograph gates) is that if they ever had to move those trains around, those rails must be on the train.'I realize that. That's way I thought that it would be nice to preserve another couple of Slants, non-operational, so that they could look like the original design, while the museum pair could be kept 'street-legal' for use in heritage-train running. |

The pantograph gates and grab bars are there to prevent mid-train boarding and to help with moving between cars. If a slant was always to run as the first car of the train, would that extra equipment be needed? I don't know. Hopefully the answer is no. |

I am assuming "as necessary", however I would like to know, if possible.b) Does anyone know for sure if the "Holiday Nostalgia Train" will be running 11/29 to 12/27 (Sundays only from 10 to 5:30 along the "V" line)? Looking forward to these answers. -YoungNYCSubwayFan |

That why I said only the first car. One car of the two car pair could be restored to as delivered condition, and the other car left in the post-rebuilt condition, or at least the post-1 year of service condition. |

Be patient, if they do it this year it will no doubt be posted here. Also, check the press releases on mta.info they will release one if they do it at all. Last year's press release was 11/25/08 so there is time. Now, I have a contact in the TM who is going to find out for me if they are going to run this year and I will post it. Keep in mind there is budget problems and that may not saying will but may prevent them from running this year. |

The V makes more sense as it can relay at QP, & 2nd Ave. Distance not too great and if they break down easier to get around it. If they run this year most likely be same as every year. |

LOL, well 3352/3 has been in the museum for awhile, and there are R-32s still running! (and probably will be until sometime next year).Speaking of that, I could be wrong, but it appears that 4280/1 took 3352/3's space at the TM.
