'..problem with the guard rails(I assume you mean Pantograph gates) is that if they ever had to move those trains around, those rails must be on the train.'

I realize that. That's way I thought that it would be nice to preserve another couple of Slants, non-operational, so that they could look like the original design, while the museum pair could be kept 'street-legal' for use in heritage-train running.
