That arnine is not even on it's trucks, like this one. With alot of work it looks like this lirr car can be saved. But that is if anyone is willing to do such a job.

Somehow, it looks like it's going to be impossibly expensive to restore to what it once was ... and those trucks look like they're rusted solid. :(

Yeah, it's sad, but I don't see much hope for this LIRR car.
Great photo spread though! I love this "before and after" sort of stuff.

Interesting contrast but it's almost better you don't see em as rustbuckets and remember them as they were.

... and those trucks look like they're rusted solid. :(

The trucks made look rusted solid but that car could roll again. Case in point, several years ago NJT was extending the #7 Newark City Subway to Newark-Broad St. In a long disused tunnel, they discovered an old wood bodied Public Service snow plow. It was in surprisingly good shape since being abandoned there since the early 1950's.

Well the snow plow was removed by not dismantled. The plow, I was told by Branford was submerged in water at some time. The plow is now in the collection of the Shore Line Trolley Museum. Here's a pic below after being repainted. Although a trolley pole is on the roof, the plow does not yet run on it's own power.

So if this plow, submereged under water, not turning a wheel since the early 1950's, then maybe the ex-LIRR parlor car could roll again.

Car: 5245... Photo by: Bill Wall...Date: 2/20/2007...Notes: PSNJ snow plow 5245. Recently cleaned, repaired, painted, and lettered by Conrad Misek and Bob Yohe at Shore Line. New roof cleats, boards,

Nice rework! Yeah, maybe the car could be moved, but I became aware of just how much it costs to restore sidelined cars a while back, and just can't see a group coming up with enough money to do restoration on that car ... it's pretty far gone. At least the sweeper at Branford was worth the effort just to be able to clean the tracks if nothing more. And it DOES look snappy!
