Walked all the way down the mezzazine from the booth on the station.
Of course I took a good flashlight.
I never made it all the way to the station shell.
I went all the way to the other and of the mezzazine,
up a flight of stairs and a few steps further
until I couldn't see any lights behind me.

I took a pic of what was in front of me.
But it was too dark to make out anything.

I like that pic of South 4th Street.

Is that pic taken from the passageway from Broadway Station?
I never went only as far as I could see some lights
from Broadway Station.
As soon as they were hidden,
That's only as far as I went.
I didn't want to take a chance on getting lost back there.

Someone told me there was a master light switch for the station.

That pic was taken inside the shell. On the north end of the N/B platform, there is an open door with a stair case going up to the station. On the S/B platform, there is a door with a gate that is locked. If you go a few feet into the tunnel, there is a whole in a chain link fence. That would get you in to an under pass. If you look up you should see several places where stairs to the platforms would have gone. To actually get into the station shell you need to find a laddet as there are no stairs in place. I got this all from another source, one that you should never ask if 76th street is real or not. Also, there are no lights in the shell at all.

At the extreme southern (Madison St) end of the East Broadway F platform, there's a closed-off stairway that heads south, then does a 180 going up, and then goes to ... nowhere? There doesn't seem to be any evidence of an outlet for the stairway. Does anybody know the story?

Nope, that station used to have a full length mezz. It has since been closed and made into crew rooms, a comm. room, and a station dept. room. If you look under the openings, you will see newer concret from where stairs had been. The original mezz. would have connected to South 4th Street *I think*. About a year ago I had seen a blue print of the staion, but I don't have a copy or photo. I did show and abandon portion of the original mezz. and closed exits to the street.
