Putting up and taking down those springs in between the units is dangerous and is an injury waiting to happen IMO.Bill me and NETO was just talking about this in ENY last week since we both now have Put-in Jobs.. You have to be very careful when putting in those springs... I tell the switch people in the yard they havent seen anything yet.. Wait until it gets really cold and those locks freeze up.. |

The old timers use to carry a railroad type pocket watch, with the sweep second hand.My bus/trolley driver friend would say it's 6:34 and a half, coming 6:35, if the sweep second hand was past 45 seconds. It was wild, with the old watches Now the SEPTA AMDT driver's radios have the time in seconds, and if you are more than one minute early at a time point a 1E shows up. On his last trip at 12:35M, he leaves at 12:34:15 to fool the timer. |

I rode the first ever R160 in service, on the N, a couple years ago. It was no different from any other trip on the N today, aside from the level of foam. The announcements didn't work then, and they don't work half of the time now.I even heard the TSS remark to the T/O at Coney "The FRN's show up every time. Fucking rail nuts" The LAST trip of something is way more significant. It's something you can't ever do again. The first is just one in a million times over the years, feel free to ride at your leisure, cuz they aren't going anywhere. But be ready to say goodbye when it's on the last run, cuz you wont' get to do it again. That's why I purposely took a trip to South Ferry loop yesterday and walked around (and as a side note, I see more than ever why they need a new station -- I both had to wait for the crowds to clear before I could go upstairs...where I saw a bunch of people waiting to go back down, and 2 people got stuck in the 6th car and the C/R refused to let them walk through the cab, saying that she made plenty of announcements at Rector for them to move forward, delaying the train). Interestingly we got held north of the station so that a OOS 1 from the new station could finish crossing in front. |

If the timetables specified 7 1/2 minute intervals, I fear the strappies will be on the platform with their stop watches. Plus in certain cases the 7 1/2 minutes may not apply from one end of the line to the other. According to the time of day running times are lengthened or shortened by just a few minutes to account for heavier or lighter ridership. |
