Why would the TM scrap museum cars? (Unless you are being sarcastic about it, LOL.)

I'm not sure which cars you are talking about, but IINM the cars involved in the rumor are not actual museum fleet cars.

I don't think he was being sarcastic. He was probably talking with a TA employee who fed him that incorrect information (there are many out there in the MTA world who would prefer not keeping any old equipment).

I don't think that's necessarily true. Many redbirds were made into work cars. Three and a half pairs were repainted and I believe all eight cars were used on fan trips in various combinations with the other four museum SMEE cars. Eight cars is a lot to save from one class. It's plausible that after they are done being used for fan trips, some (or all) could be either converted to work cars or scrapped. I doubt it would be all, as it seems likely they would save at least one pair for the museum. Obviously I hope that all are saved.

IAWTP.

For right now, they will be used as necessary to run with the Museum SMEE's from Court Street, or they will be used as is for excursions. In addition to that, the 8 cars can be used in transfer moves of other equipment, as was done with 1300 and 4192/93.

Yeah, like R-6-2 #1208 that went to the scrapline, as well as these proposed R-7/7A/9 cars set aside for museum designation: #1502, #1586, #1600 and #1701. Do not forget also that R-10 car #2959 was actually going to be for the Transit Museum collection, not #3184 as originally believed, but it too was sent to scrap, despite some work that was said to be done on it.

Why would employees be against keeping any of the old equipment? I can see being indifferent to whether or not they're kept, but why against?

Chances are some people see those cars as a nuisance or taking up space. Lest we forget R-6-2 1208 was scrapped along with a few BMT standards that had been set aside for preservation.
