On what grounds?

And why are you afraid to answer the question?

Heh, the RiverLINE is next up on the list of virgin rail territory (which is rapidly decreasing).

Incidentally, yesterday I walked about 2½-3 miles, which is probably slightly more than typical for me on a weekday.

I have no idea how that compares to others (except for Easy), since (get ready for this) I haven't asked and, aside from Easy, nobody's mentioned how much they walk.

Well FWIW I'm a foot courier for DHL and walk every day from Penn Station to 33. E. 33rd Street (near Park Av), then walk from there to 575 5th (47th & 5th), and around the grid bounded by 5th, Madison, 47th and 44th Sts for a couple of hours, then back to 33rd & Park, then back to Penn Station.

Many times I go out a second time, shuttling freight to 43rd & Madison or 53rd & Park; and several times I have done other routes, including routes in the 70's between Park and York. From 33rd & Park and back.

That's a lot of walking.

Well technically I didn't mention how much I walked yesterday either. I took a train ride with my kids and we walked around quite a bit. Maybe 2 miles or so.

I average 2-3 miles a day.

When I want a good walk in, it might be from home to Prospect Park or from work up to Union Square, in addition to my regule routine.

Agreed, but what if his destination is several blocks from the subway?

The amount of walking I do every day varies between near zero and five miles, depending on what day it is.

A man asked Reddi Kilowatt how much power he used.

He answered, "It depends on watt day it is." 8-)

The standard as the APWA has set down is:
White: Proposed Excavation
Pink: Temporary Survey Markings
Red: Electrical and Lighting lines, cables, and conduits
Yellow: Gas, Oil, Steam, Petrolium, or Gaseous Materials
Orange: Communications, alarm or signal lines cables or conduits
Blue: Potable Water
Brown: Reclaimed water, irrigation, and slurry lines
Green: Sewage and drain lines
This can be found on page 7 of this PDF. It's by no means a hard and fast regulation. It's not uncommon to see survey markers in white, orange, or green, but red, yellow, and blue should be pretty sacrosanct because of the potential hazard in striking a gas, power, or water line. The yellow flags around a fiber optic installation don't neccesarily mark out the fiber optic line, but rather are placed in advance so the crew laying the wire doesn't dig right into a natural gas line.

And if more people had known this, it would have given the location away, since there's a large gas pipe underneath this rail trail for most of it's length.
