It is within walking distance of the current Raritan or NJCL branch or Bound Brook.

From where u took the pic, a NJT rail station must be one block away.

Maybe currently. But in my "heydey" (mid 80's thru mid 90's), I walked from Medford Station of the LIRR to Patchouge Station (after first walking up to the 7-Eleven by the L.I.E.), and from the Brewster Station of Metro-North to the Bonanza Bus Station in Danbury. Each walk was about 6 or 7 miles.

Yeah I know how it is. I'll walk down to the beach if I stop at the end of the Metrolink OC line in Oceanside, but in places like Lancaster, CA there's really no reason to stay any longer than whenever the next train comes.

I walk a lot when I'm railfanning, but for normal everyday stuff, not so much. I even drive to the grocery store next door when I have just one or two items to pick up. It's maybe a 250 yard walk.

The prevailing opinion among some is that riding trains, buses, and walking are things that only poor people do in LA. People will pay monthly dues at the health club to run on a treadmill when we have great weather nearly year round.

Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that on average the people that post here walk the same or less, compared to the average NY'er? I assume that the NY'ers are about average and the non-NYer's like me bring the average down.

Well, if he doesn't drive, and doesn't fly, so he takes buses and trains, he has to do a pretty good amount of walking. As to whether it's more than you do or I do, I don't know.

what I am going to say, I do my research AND I do read the responses carefully, such as:

-Not in NY State
-Central RR of NJ
-two blocks from active NJT station
-correct line (Raritan) but wrong station
-and farthest out in NJ

And I'm comfortable saying that I walk on average less than most of the people that post here. Unless I'm railfanning or forcing myself to walk to the convenience store (<0.5 miles) I walk back and forth to my car, around the office, and that's about it. I do jog, but I don't count that.

High Bridge.

This is the beginning of the Columbia Hiking Trail, 2 blocks from the High Bridge station:



Here's where the track would have merged with the existing railroad, now occupied by a parking lot and a gazebo:



I will walk this trail sometime in the spring. Of course it'd be convenient for more people to enjoy it if service on the RVL ran to High Bridge on weekends.
