But in my "heydey" (mid 80's thru mid 90's), I walked from Medford Station of the LIRR to Patchouge Station (after first walking up to the 7-Eleven by the L.I.E.), and from the Brewster Station of Metro-North to the Bonanza Bus Station in Danbury. Each walk was about 6 or 7 miles. |

And I'm comfortable saying that I walk on average less than most of the people that post here. Unless I'm railfanning or forcing myself to walk to the convenience store (<0.5 miles) I walk back and forth to my car, around the office, and that's about it. I do jog, but I don't count that. |

This is the beginning of the Columbia Hiking Trail, 2 blocks from the High Bridge station:  Here's where the track would have merged with the existing railroad, now occupied by a parking lot and a gazebo:  I will walk this trail sometime in the spring. Of course it'd be convenient for more people to enjoy it if service on the RVL ran to High Bridge on weekends. |
