Over the past two weeks all the station in Brooklyn have been getting a Face Lift of sorts. There all getting new paint jobs on all pillars, gates, doors and garbage palls and what even else has paint on it its getting a new layer on it. All the seats are getting striped and resurfaced as well. I don't know what its being done for, but someone I asked said, thinks that its for something next month going on. There even putting in new drains on some platforms were water builds up near the stairs.

With all the new cars, CBTC, and additional service starting in qbout 23 days, (new pick) perhaps NYCT is considering it a showcase line.

They should either scrape or repaint the ceiling over the trackbed at Wilson Avenue, looks terrible.

Wow who woulda thought that in the 1980's or 1970's...."The L: The Showcase Line"....people would have laughed you onto the tracks if that statement was made on that line in the 80's!

In the 1970s, nobody would have laughed if you said the subway was going to shut down. It easily could have.

We've come a long way...

Any chance you can tell us what color they painted BEDFORD Ave?
Anyone can post a pic, that would be great for me, since I can't I'm in FL, BEDFORD Ave was my home station. :)

I was thinking the same thing! Back when I road the line regularly, we were the last to have Standards, the last to get air-conditioned cars...etc.

...and if the "subway" was bad...the L, J, and M were the worst of the group!

Actually, the 14 St Line or "LL" as it was called in 1969 was the first Eastern division Line to get air conditioned cars. Due to a delay in releasing sufficient R-42s for promised introduction of air conditioned cars on the 14 St Line, 3 6 car trains of modified R-40s were assigned to the 14 St Line and fitted with the appropriate Eastern Division roll signs. Due to a crew office mixup when I was a M/M in 1969, I ended up being assigned to an early AM run out of canarsie on Friday, June 20 of that year. I was the M/M on the 5:11AM interval out of Canarsie which was a 6 car train of air conditioned R-40Ms and when I blew the horn for the grade crossing at E 105 St, all the passengers in my car applauded. Not only did I operate the first air conditioned train on the 14 St Line but during the following week that I held down that run, I also operated the last train of steels on the line.

I'm not going to argue, but honestly, I never remember 8 car trains of R40M's on the L, just 6 car trains.

I am going to really miss the old train indicator sign at Rockaway Pkwy that said Forward Cars Only and pointed to which direction the next train would be departing. When I saw they got rid of it and replaced it with that ugly much smaller digital black thing I was shocked!
