C returning tomorrow!!! |
|
Posted by jrr4 on Tue Feb 1 16:58:49 2005 From MTA website:Effective Wednesday, February 2, 2005 Most C service restored More A trains running Rockaway Park A Express remains suspended V running on its normal route from Forest Hills to 2 Av What's happening now About 70% of A and C service will return effective 5 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2005. Since full rush hour service is still a few months away, customers should continue to expect delays and crowding. Non-rush hour service will be normal; however, be aware that the A/C service may be diverted weeknights and weekends as the work to restore all service continues. |

Posted by H.S.Relay on Tue Feb 1 18:44:40 2005, in response to Re: C returning tomorrow!!!, posted by italianstallion on Tue Feb 1 17:30:01 2005. The original IND signal designs were "Line Case" which means the signal equipment is distributed along the right-of-way in cases every few hundred feet next to a signal location. All circuits run case to case.Interlocking controls begin and end in the line cases, but all of the "brains" are in the interlocker in the tower and the adjacent relay room, like a mainframe computer with I/O. So losing the tower relay room disables all of the signals it controls, but if you don't need to USE the interlocking, you can bypass it, and just run case to case in the field, which is what was done. The switches are permanently secured in the straight rail position, and the formerly interlocked signals now work as automatics. That's why Bergen took longer - the switches needed to be used to route the F and G. It's easy in principle, but as they say, the devil is in the details. |

I was confident that the work would be done in far less time than that, as was the case with the Bergen St incident. I know a lot of people think transit workers are dumb or overpaid or in some cases unnesesary, but lets remember the job they did here next time contract talks come up. |

Well they could keep the V on Fulton and run 10-car C trains just run fewer of them to accomodate the E at WTC, afterall the C is needed more on CPW and is usually empty as ppl crowd onto the Fulton express A train. The V to Euclid offers ppl a new one seat route to Manhattan rather than to transfer to the F. And also that way they can run more A trains w/no C's merging from Canal to Hoyt. |

True, but if they cut the C short to WTC, then they can run more A trains and hell divide the A designations to A[Far Rockaway] and K [Lefferts].God knows the A needs to run more trains. I've seen at least 2 E trains b4 an A finally showed up - I feel sorry for the Lefferts bound riders as they have to wait even longer w/the majority to Far Rockaway. |
