Here is what I see right now.Metrolink DM #625 plowed into a Union Pacific Locomotive which was parked on a siding. It hit with such force that the loco was knocked onto its side. The front end of DM #625 is obliterated. Following this is trailer #133 and #148 both badly damaged. The latter is on its side. The current death toll is 4. News conference via CNN at 1115. wayne |

From what I've been able to piece together, it sounds like one of the commuter trains hit a car at a crossing, causing it to derail into the path of an oncoming commuter train. The wreckage of these two commuter trains tumbled onto/into a parked UP Freight.Nightmare scenario. I hope the casualty list doesn't get worse. CG |

But since it seems that there was a triggered explosion on the vehicle on 24, that's what caused such a bad derailment. |

This is why at-grade crossings should be removed or consolidated on commuter tracks.Yes, it would be HUGELY expensive, and it can't be done in some locations due to the grade of the tracks. However, it would also help remove some of the lower speed limits in those sections which would decrease the commuting time. |
