The R-14 order was for 150 cars, 5803-5952, built by the American Car & Foundry Company. 1958 – from The Book of Wrecks There was a head on collision between two passenger trains on the Mainline of the Erie Railroad near Sloatsburg, New York. Westbound train No.53 (Hoboken to Port Jervis) headed up by EMD GP-7 1402 collided with eastbound No. 50 (Monroe to Hoboken) under the control of Alco PA-1 859. I first noticed them on the R36s in the mid-'60s, by which time they were used only in the Flushing-bound direction (though some were still mounted on the Manhattan-bound ends, and the receivers were still located alongside the Manhattan-bound tracks). They performed two functions in the evening rush hour: 1) activate the correct electric Local/Express station signs as the train approached 5 Av, Grand Central, Vernon-Jackson, Hunters Point, Court Sq, and Queesboro Plaza 2) set the switch east of Queensboro Plaza for either the express or local track Often the train operator would set the coil incorrectly, or the coil wasn't working, so leaving QBP and approaching the switch, it didn't set correctly, and the train had to stop so the operator could operate the punch at the switch, more delays for the riders. When they abandoned the Identra system altogether with the arrival of the R62s, which had no Identra loop brackets, they installed a punch at QBP, so the operator could punch for the correct lineup while the train was stopped at the station, no additional stop at the switch needed.

My understanding was the R-62s were supposed to have Identra equipment internally under the end bonnet so that the external “toilet seats” would be unnecessary. Rumor also had it that all the cars from theR-40 and up was also supposed to have been wired for Identra so that the Identra system could be extended to the entire system if desired. |

Here in CA ANY dairy product must carry a plant # which can be translated via website 'wheres my milk from'All rail sold in the US for example must be engraved with a plant code and date of manufacture as well as weight. |
