Parade of Trains

Posted by transitbuff on Mon Jun 1 21:12:17 2026

Does anyone know whether the TRAINS are boarding at Kings Highway Station as well as Brighton Beach?

Looks like you can board at either Kings Hwy. or Brighton Beach, according to this NYTM announcement:
2026 Parade

I sort of agree with you that it does get repetitive and I probably will not attend as well. I believe I asked you last year on how we/they can do it differently? You worked there so you know the logistics and restrictions involved. If you can come up with something reasonable I have no problem advocating for it.

Like the other one in December, this is the same old route, same old delays, same old foamers jumping all over the place. Here's an idea, have the vintage trains run the express track on the West End, after boarding at BB, doing what the NX did, except run the structure instead, cross over at the track right outside 36th street, take the Sea Beach express track straight through Stillwell, back to BB. Since the wooden cats can't do tunnels, have them go between BB and Ocean Parkway

BB, through Stillwell, express on West End, cross over track north of 36th Street, Sea Beach express track back through Stillwell back to BB. Have the wooden El cars do the shuttle between BB and Ocean Parkway

When I was in high school, one of the upperclassmen was friends with the late Fr. Cosgrove, who was a TA chaplain at that time.
Our school was able to charter a train of D-types from the NYTM for a "Subway Social" dance event (and, like a complete and total idiot, I missed it).
I have been waiting to ride a Triplex for a very long time; hopefully I'll get to see and ride one on Saturday.

I've never ridden on the Triplexes. Had they not broken down en route to the 2004 Parade of Trains, that dream would have come true.

IINM 6112C's electric portions were reworked to m. u. with the IND old timers. Or did they redo both units on both ends so they could m. u. will all prewar steel equipment?

Well, they had to change the slide (electric portion) on the AB so it could MU with the D and the R-9 since the original electric portion on the AB was entirely different.

I finally got to ride a Triplex at the Parade of Trains today, along with a train of ABs and a very short SMEE consist (R10, R7A and R16). Love hearing those spur gears on the old BMT traction motors; sounds like a cow mooing. The T/O's on the D and the AB really were giving the air whistles a workout as we rolled past Sheepshead Bay, Neck Road and Ave. U. At one point, our ABs were marching up A4 track just south of Sheepshead Bay, running alongside a N/B Q on A2 with a set R46s, when a S/B Q with a set of R68s rolled by on A1 track. 3 generations of BMT south cars....
Brighton Beach station was pretty crowded (I was there around noon) and those narrow platforms (jammed with a number of very inattentive subway fans)made me feel that a 12-9 could happen there any moment.
Still, I loved it....

Too bad they cant take it on a different routing for a change, like send it out on the Eastern Div to Jamaica or Canarsie or both. Maybe even squeeze in a quick run to Astoria.
Just a thought.

Well today was your lucky day, because the Triplex was taken out of service and laid up. They hope to have it running again tomorrow.

You are correct; I was aboard its final trip today. It was laid up adjacent to a train of R1-9s.

Good for you! Just one thing: That car in the SMEE consist with the two-tone gray paint scheme is a bona fide R-10. You're thinking of 1575, which is not compatible with SMEEs.

The 2 tone gray car in the consist is a REAL R-10 in its original paint scheme. The R-7A with the R-10 body car 1575 is usually in the R-9 museum consist and can only MU with R-1/9s NOT with SMEES!

Thanks Bill! I guess one is painted in the aqua/white livery and the other one is gray with red trim. That means both of them were in the same consist as the R16.

In my part of Queens, I rode QBL and the R10s did not serve there until maybe the mid-late 70s.
I remember seeing them working on the GG, which ran to Continental Avenue at that time. By then they were in MTA blue and silver.
I always admired their looks: tough, functional and yet elegant.
