These were taken just an hour or so ago as I just happened to be passing through.I really love the place. It's lost some of its "beauty" when they covered up one of the side platforms. Also you didn't get a shot of the head end of one of the platforms, with its quiet beauty. Much of its charm comes from being under the seat of power of NYC, the Municipal Building. |

I completely agree. Chambers is an important time capsule, a living look at transit needs of years past. The closed side platform, the extra middle platforms, the closed stairways, the faded signs on the pillars referencing the IRT lines, the abandoned tunnel structure above the station intending to connect to Brooklyn Bridge...all of these hearken back to a time when the subway was much more important and much more interwoven with the NYC public than it is today. |
