Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Fri Feb 27 07:14:01 2026 Tuscarora Almanac for February 27 and a Rail Car of Note 1961 – from The Book of Last Runs Deck-roof High-Voltage Motor Car 3662 leaves New York City today for the Branford Trolley Museum in East Haven, Connecticut. This is the last Hi-V on NYCTA property. Tuscarora Rail Cars of Note No. 2 The Air-Conditioned R-17’s The R-17’s were a class of 400 rapid transit cars for service on the IRT Division of the New York City Subway System. They were built by the Saint Louis Car Company between 1955 and 1956. They were numbered 6500-6899. Ten of these cars, 6800-6809 were equipped with six air-conditioning unit per car. They had unique baffle type fan covers and fiberglass bucket seats. The a/c units proved impractical and were replaced with standard fans in the early sixties. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
