Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Fri Feb 13 12:27:05 2026 Tuscarora Almanac forFebruary 13 and a Forgotten Station 1938 – from The Book of First Runs Philadelphia’s Broad Street Subway is extended from Lombard-South to Snyder Avenue. The Tuscarora Book of Forgotten Stations No. 22 – Park Avenue Station Brooklyn, New York Brooklyn Elevated Railroad Company Park Avenue was a station on what is today’s Broadway-Brooklyn Line. It was located between Flushing Avenue and Myrtle Avenue stations. Service began on July 14, 1888 and ended on June 5, 1916. It was a simple two track station with a single island platform. The construction of a connection between the Myrtle Avenue Line and the Broadway Line necessitated moving the platforms of the Myrtle Avenue station westwards. The new platforms were too close to the Park Avenue station so, it was closed. Source: ERA New York Division Bulletin, June 1997, article by Mr. Bernard Linder Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Although it might have made for a slightly longer walk from the station to the actual intersection of Bway and Myrtle, it might have been better to move the Myrtle Ave station on the Bway Bkln Line a bit farther west to make the connection between the Bway and Myrtle Ave lines less severe. It would also have required a more intricate pattern of ramps and walkways between the Bway and Myrtle station but it would have been doable and probably not to much more involved than the connection at Bway Jct between the Bway and 14th St Lines. |

Didn't realize until 1938 the Broad Street Line only went as far south as Lombard-South Street. This would in part explain why express service ended at Walnut-Locust and they didn't stay four tracks to at least Lombard-South if not later further south on Broad.Service was extended from Snyder Avenue to what is now NRG Stadium I believe in 1973, two years after the sports complex opened there. |
