Save Your Metrocards.
Posted by Fisk Ave Jim on Tue Jan 13 11:41:40 2026 The now obsolete Metrocards are not turning into collectors items. I'm hearing that some of them are now going for around upwards of $3K on E-bay. Who knew? I might have a few lying around somewhere. Could make for a few mortgage payments!

Only thing now is there are some now requiring bidding as opposed to buy it now. there is a lot of 2000 going on now as well as picture id cards (1/2 fare cards) for alot. also RIngling Brothers for 400.00 (all 4)

Just flash your employee ID and you're buzzed in or walk thru the gates as far as I know.

Once a Pass is reported Loss, or missing or the person was terminated it gets deactivated... My point about some idiot spending 1000 bucks for a pass that dont work stands. Oh and BTW all of our passes have Pictures on them.. Just wanted to throw that out there as well...

You pay for a Metro Card.... Not a employee ID. What you could be referring to is a retirees pass which isnt paid for.

Even with other collectibles such as timetables and maps. The thing is there is no policing of the transit collectible hobby like there is for other hobbies such as coins and stamps.

Some really collectable cards got hundreds but that is about it. Some people were selling LOTS of cards (multiple) of 20 to 100 for reasonable prices for art projects and such.

I had to laugh. I paid $40.00 for my IND front destination sign at Cityana Gallery in 1978.
