IBX Label

Posted by Spider-Pig on Wed Dec 17 16:56:18 2025

This is jumping the gun, but I think that when the IBX opens, it should be branded as part of the subway and given a letter, or number.

I doubt it. I think they want it to feel special and totally different from the subway system.

There was a NIMBY meeting at Christ the King in Middle Village last month. They talked about why they ghink IBX is a fantasy.

They mentioned the fact that the section of track between Fresh Pond Yard and the section north isn't even owned by the MTA. It's owned by CSX.

Also said there is a high rise under construction at Roosevelt Avenue and it would take a feat of engineering to squeeze IBX in between.

Shouldnt be a problem. After all they built the 6th Ave subway that was indeed a monumental feat of engineering & ingenuity. This by comparison should be a piece of cake

There apparently is a very real problem with the high rise and running this project next to it.

And then there's the issue with CSX ownership of the line beyond Fresh Pond Junction.

Interesting letter.

I have a List of handles whose reaction to this letter, I'd like to read.

Middle Village and Maspeth are very opposed to IBX.

I hope no one here sends hate (e-) mail to makes nasty phone calls to Mr. Graziano.

But I can think of a few handles here who are capable of such hatred.

Either they have some assurances from CSX, or they're idiots. I'll take "idiots" for 2,000, Alex.

i am ware that IBX is planned to be LR. This prevents the connection over Hell Gate. This defeats a major goal of linking the Bronx to the many Brooklyn routes. While transfers to/from New Rochelle to Penn trains will make a connection possible, I doubt the freqencies would match,

I gather Grazano went looking for nominal roadblocks, but they seem common--hat is, not insurmountable. if the ROW did not exist, and predate the lives of all of these residents, I might have more sympathy. As to "engineering feats" the hard work was done when the route was first constructed. if built as an FRA compatible rather than light rail operation.the bsic issue would be repairing/restoring the mainline tracks w/catenary. i remember seeing NH rlrctric freight engines from the windows of a Sea Beach train in the late 60s.

I'd settle for fare integration. Have they promised it yet? If you can't do subway-IBX-subway on one fare a lot of the purpose of this project is being defeated.
