Mystery Railcar Shipment

Posted by Jersey Mike on Tue Nov 18 12:42:22 2025

Last November I spotted this tarped railcar moving along PA Route 42 in Catawissa, PA. It was most likely being transported from one of the Southern Tier railcar plants (Hormel, Elmira, etc) to Philadelphia or New York as state routes 42 and 61 can be used to avoid the expensive PA Turnpike extension, especially for a trailer with 6 axles! I first assumed it was a BART car, but later realized the shape is wrong. It appears to have the length and inset end door of an NYCTA subway car, but I am not sure what would have been outshopped by the Alstom or CAF plants at that time. Does anyone have any idea what this was?

Was the tractor dark green and signed as Silk Road Transport?
They regularly transport railcars and other oversized freight:

Just suggesting, but about a year ago NYCT received an R211 car that was damaged during shipment. It was "returned to sender". I wonder if that was the car?

Address unknown, no such number, no such zone?:)

If you look closely, you can see the outlines of four sets of doors, so it makes sense.
