The 6 Pelham line is one of the two three track elevated lines which actually operate express service. The other of course is the 7 Flushing line which started operating express service in 1939 after the Willets Point station was rebuilt to serve the 1939-40 Worlds Fair. |

At one time the White Plains Road and Jerome Ave lines had middle track express service. Also the Broadway/Jamaica line still operates express rush hr direction service AFAIK |

I forgot about the West Farms line which has peak direction 5 express service between 149th St-3rd Avenue and East 180th St. during rush hours. At one time the trains ran express all the way up to Gun Hill Road but it was cut back to give more passengers a one seat ride on the 5 line without changing trains. The three track lines were built because the streets below were too narrow for a four track elevated structure. |

The JFK Express began stopping at Aqueduct and people looking for Aqueduct got a coupon valid for free grandstand admission that offset some of the extra fare. |

Murray: There is express service on the underground section of the Jerome Avenue Line between 149th Street and 125th Street. Also several late morning trains run express from 167th Street to Burnside Avenue via the middle track. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Yeah, but now you got the (A) except overnights running express in Brooklyn, which makes it difficult at best to run the JFK Express nowadays. |

Both of which are being run only for the convenience of subway operations, of course, and not actually for the real purpose of saving passengers any time. |

Yep, Curly and sZemp trains run express between Myrtle Ave. and Marcy Ave. in the peak direction. Then there's the 5, which runs express in the Bronx in the peak direction. |

What was a killer to the service was the change for the terminal shuttle bus at Howard Beach. Lugging all your luggage off the trin then back on a bus was a big dealbreaker |

'The Aqueduct Special is discontinued'.My late great-uncle (born in 1899) was an old school NYC horse player. He lived on the lower east side and took the Aqueduct Special to the track into the early 1970s. He said the train was filled with characters and reeked of cigar smoke. The floor would end up covered in discarded newspapers. Rough crowd from a different era. LOL! |
