1948 – from The Book of Last Runs

The Connecticut Company discontinues trolley service in New Haven, Connecticut.

1965 – from The Book of Wrecks

A northbound 7th Avenue Express derailed while switching from the express to the local track north of Chambers Street Station. R-17 6580 was badly damaged and removed from service.

2012 – from The Book of First Runs

A new free transfer point is opened between the uptown platform of the IRT Lexington Avenue Line and the Broadway-Lafayette Street station of the IND 6th Avenue Line.
Provisions for this transfer point were provided for in the 1940 construction of the 6th Avenue Line in the form of unfinished passageways.

A free transfer point at this location had opened on May 19, 1957. However it was only with the southbound IRT platform.

The south end of bway/laf was fully finished with stairs that went up to the street behind what is now a bank. Those stairs still have original tiles and were reopened when the work was complete. The beehive is over the original stairs which were refinished with the escalator squeezed in.

The story I heard was a gas station was why the uptown platform when they were originally expanded was not done so southward to reach the 6th Avenue line platforms at Broadway-Lafayette.

With the end of streetcar operation on the New Haven Division, the Shoreline Trolley Museum was on its own, so to speak. When service on the Branford-Stony Creek branch ended in March of 1947, the Connecticut Company left it tied into the rest of its system, making it easy for the first museum cars to arrive on the property. They did so under their own power.
