Tuscarora Almanac for September 16 |

Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Tue Sep 16 10:13:39 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for September 16 1908 – from The Book of First Runs A new rapid transit line over the Williamsburg Bridge connects Marcy Avenue on the Broadway-Brooklyn Line with a new underground terminal in Manhattan called Delancey Street. The section of the Broadway El between Marcy Avenue and the Broadway Ferry is now relegated to branch line service. The Delancey Street Terminal was built as a two track station with two side platforms with provision for a southward extension. This was done in 1913 and involved a rebuilding of the terminal into the station that we know as Essex Street. The northernmost platform and track are original. Source: New York Division Bulletin, June 1958 & November 1960, articles by Mr. David Rogoff Note: Two days before this occurred the Williamsburg Ferry Company discontinued service on all five of its East River routes. The wooden pilings for the ferry slips are still visible at the foot of Broadway. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
