1956 - from the Book of First Runs

A five-mile, $2.5 million relocation of the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad, known as the East Chicago Bypass, opened, putting an end to street running through East Chicago. It runs parallel to the Indiana Toll Road along its entire length. A new station at Indianapolis Blvd. also opened.

The following day, the Indiana Toll Road was dedicated.
