Not the first time a Station Agent has been attacked outside the booth. Won't be the last.Now she has the nightmare of Workman's Comp waiting for weeks without money coming in till the paperwork goes thru "channels". Then the difference in pay from transit takes longer. If she lives from paycheck to paycheck she's in a lot of trouble. Thank God I was never injured on the job. |

I don't remember that but do remember the one on Jamaica Ave circa 1990.So the NYCT waited over a decade from 1979 to 1990 until another clerk was burned alive before installing fire extinguishers in all booths! And the one in the 90's was part of a string of arson attacks on employees. Mamdandi wants free bus fare and TWU supporters this because they say it will reduce assaults on bus drivers. This logic can easily be expanded to subway fare. |

The coin slot in the booth were open so the which contributed to these fires. Later, they put little "doors" there which the clerk would lift up in order to perform the transaction.I do remember a clerk incinerate in her booth at Halsey St. on the "LL" many years ago. |

I remember when they installed the protective doors for the exchange slots to keep closed during slow moments.Before then, some agents keep something to stuff or block the opening, like a rag. Now that we are on the topic, I remember reading about the murder of an agent at Vernon-Jackson on the 7. Agent came out to collect the tokens and was ambushed and killed by a lone gunman. I think he got cash too. He fled by tunnel towards Hunters Point and got away. |

If lucky enough to be in a "battle wagon" (AKA the old TAPD Suburbans R.M.P.s), we were supposed to stop and check every station that wasn't being covered by a post cop. |

It depends where you go, and what you make of it once you get here. Around here (Clearwater/St. Petersburg), most of the transplants are from western PA, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. I find these folks to be a bit on the naive side, but they're much more 'genuine'. Now if you go over to Palm Beach or Broward county, where all the phony SOB's from NYC run to, well, I guess you can imagine......I didn't move 1200 miles to live around the same idiots I was looking to get away from. |

My brother and a close friend, both retired (one TA, the other OA) and are two of five (along with spouses) people I now who have moved down to Florida from NY in the past 3 years. All along with a couple who relocated there 10 years ago, are trying to get me to do the same talking about better quality of life, less taxes and less stress.I have to admit, it is on my list as a possible location. |

Another thing to consider about Florida, where do you think Florida civil servants go when they retire?One would assume, if they are retired and already living in Florida, naturally they will just stay. Why would anyone leave Florida when retiring? But many do. And if they stay, they tend to move from major Metropolitan areas like Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, or Tampa-St.Pete, all the way to the panhandle. But many leave the state. Certain things about Florida are fascinating. Like the number of tanning salons in shopping centers around the state, but especially Tampa and Miami. Or how people seem to hate the heat. Meteorologists on all the major network news affiliates and radio stations complain about the heat, often citing the streak of 90 degree days and are elated when they can announce cooler weather is on the way. Odd. One would just assume a streak of many consecutive days of 90 degree weather would not be a grievance or newsworthy but apparently it is. |
