Well, it wasn't due to mental illness because Ms. DiBlasio's $1,000,000,000 Thrive program fixed all that.Maybe the stabee was an infidel. Infidel necks irresistibly tempt the sword, so not really a crime. Enjoy your future, New York. |

NYC is currently on track for its fewest annual murder total since 1951 or 1943 before that. It's all time low territory. The 2025 murder rate is similar to Nebraska, Idaho, or New Jersey. It's literally thousands fewer than the early 90's.Maybe our tolerance decreases as we get older? I think that mine has although my city has almost as many murders as NYC with less than half the people. Even that's considered low for a large US city. |

In our lifetimes NYC went from 3-5 murders per day from 1970-1995 to about 5 murders per week. As horrific crimes become more unusual, it would make sense that the intensity is greater. Plus traditional media modes have lost share, so they need to find a reason for you to watch and that reason is usually fear. |

True, but I suspect that most violent crime is also way down from historic highs, although maybe not as much. Over the last 30-50 years, guns have become much more available and powerful guns even more so.Theft and quality of life crimes are probably down as well. Certainly graffiti isn't what it used to be. Things like smoking on trains and open drug use are up though. I think that end of the war on drugs created some of the mess that we see today. |

It's been said that recent deportations from NYC have changed behavior in a way that has disproportionately reduced crime, a possible mechanism being that people afraid of getting pinched watch their conduct in public places. I have no stats to argue whether this is true or false, anecdotally I've heard people on the ground floor of things say the city has gotten quieter in the past 3 months.Anyways, the stats are good news but there have still been too many subway push incidents, or rush-and throw incidents if you're under 200#. How often did those happen from 2000-2012? |

I don't know how often subway pushing has happened but I remember it being reported on the news even when I was a kid 40-50 years ago. I think that Grandmaster Flash rapped about it in The Message. "Pushed that girl in front of the train took her to a doctor and sewed her arm on again" or something like that. Some of the increase in things like that is drugs. People have literally gone crazy taking drugs. Some were already crazy. |

No, that's not what I meant, and I don't think it's what I typed. Maybe I wasn't clear, lemme try again:Deporting people who are here illegally reduced crime by more than the number of actual criminals among the deported that's the (disproportionate). * My hunch is that is 2 or 3 categories of people may have changed their behavior: People here illegally that are here mostly for crime and people here illegally but mostly for work who like to sometimes see what they can get away with and people here legally but have an open warrant out somewhere which the city makes less than zero effort to enforce So crime may have gone down because - criminals were deported and also - because a larger group or groups of people who weren't deported changed their behavior I can't prove any of that, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it * Yes, breaking immigration law is a crime, often several as 'stuff happens' along the way. But I'm using 'criminal' to mean people doing ---t in addition to jumping the immigration line. |

When I began my career, our pension plan was 30/62 and that was my plan. Of course when upgraded to 25/55 I had options but I also loved my job. The extra 10% didn't hurt, either. |

When I retired we had two options; 30/62 or 30/60. with full pension. Also complete medical & dental until 65. Also get paid half the value of your unused sick and vacation time. In other words if you had 30 sick days in the 'bank', you'd get paid for 15. But There was one catch. If you went 30/60 you had to surrender your Vanguard back to the MTA.I took the 30/60, having 38 years of seniority never once regretting my decision. |

With 25/55 we got half pay after 25 years and 2% for each year beyond. I was able to cash in 1/2 of 240 sick days and up to 108 vacation days or 228 days at full pay. As management we also got to keep medical/dental/vision for life. All in all, not so bad. |
