IRT No. 7 Flushing Expresses run between Times Square and Main Street. BMT No. 9 Flushing "Express" Shuttles run between Queensboro Plaza and Main Street. 1965 – from The Book of Last Runs This is the final day of passenger train service on the Adirondack Division of the New York Central Railroad. 1982 – from The Book of First Runs Electric train service begins today on the section of Conrail's North Jersey Coast Line between South Amboy and Mattawan. Specifically, that IND extension officially opened at 1:00 PM 87 years ago today. I'm willing to bet they were already running trains all the way out to 169th St. without passengers well before that extension opened. |

They were already running trains all the way out to 169th St. without passengers well before that extension opened to keep rail surfaces rust free. |

I'm also sure there was no official "first train," either. They probably opened the gates at 1 o'clock and whichever train arrived first at any given station began carrying passengers. |
