The article mentions the "gap" as something you can fall into, but I found that in London the "gap" was more the vertical gap, or step, changing elevation between the vehicle and the platform. I didn't notice anywhere it was possible to actually fall in between train and platform in London.

There's a video attached to the story that shows a void between the platform and the train.

Certain lines on LT share trackage between the tube stock and the lager subsurface stock. The difference was similar to the difference on BMT els where the narrower wooden el cars and the wider steel cars shared trackage. In addition to the difference in car widths, there was also a difference in platform HEIGHTS. On lines where both types of cars shared trackage, the stations had “compromise platforms” that were in between “tube” height and “sub surface” height so that passengers had to step up to board a sub surface car but step down to board a tube car hence the "mind the gap” announcements at those stations.
