Metropolitan Transportation Authority sources said the man was found aboard an uptown A train with blood in his mouth before emergency crews arrived. |

This is a misconception borne of movies and tv shows, and has little basis in reality. If somebody keels over from a heart attack or other “normal” cause of death, people will never bleed from the mouth upon death.However, if somebody is dying from a problem with their lungs or respiratory system, they may have blood in their mouth upon death, due to coughing up blood from the damaged system. So if you see somebody in a movie keel over and start bleeding from their mouth, that’s just a movie, no realism required. If somebody in that movie dies from being shot in the chest, however, the pierced lung likely would cause bleeding from the mouth, meaning that it does have some realism. |

Found him on the floor and he was bleeding from the mouth.We thought someone killed him and was maybe hiding in the apartment. We'll see what happens in this story. Hopefully media will follow up. |

Over the past 50 years or so, I've had a number of aunts & uncles die from a heart attack. Not one had any report of bleeding from the mouth. The only scenerio I can see as a cause of bleeding from the mouth is on the way down, you crack a rib against something & puncture a lung |

My grandfther died in 1956 of a massive stroke or heart attack. He was awake, coughing up blood, sitting him up in gurney and in the ambulance fearing he would drown from the hemorrhage. He died on the way to the hospital. |

Each loss, even that of a homeless man, is meaningful to some others out there. Ten years ago, a railfan died at the Penn Station loop of the #4 bus. The driver walked to him in the rear of the bus to awaken him at the last stop, found him dead. A few years previously, I recall him saying at the Babylon LIST meeting, "If it sparks, it's good." Like me, not to fond of steam or diesel slides. He was not homeless. He was a friendly and admirable fan. |

Berore they put up the wall at the south end of 2nd Ave, there was a huge homeless encampment there. At one time I had to address a B/O train there and refused because of the stench. I knew his time was growing short, and when I no longer heard any sounds coming from his bedroom, I went in and found him with a totally enraged look frozen on his face- he was pissed at death for taking him. Maybe I should have been in there with him to the end, I dunno, but he spent his last week groaning and cursing incoherently. I could only handle so much. |
