This is a misconception borne of movies and tv shows, and has little basis in reality. If somebody keels over from a heart attack or other “normal” cause of death, people will never bleed from the mouth upon death.However, if somebody is dying from a problem with their lungs or respiratory system, they may have blood in their mouth upon death, due to coughing up blood from the damaged system. So if you see somebody in a movie keel over and start bleeding from their mouth, that’s just a movie, no realism required. If somebody in that movie dies from being shot in the chest, however, the pierced lung likely would cause bleeding from the mouth, meaning that it does have some realism. |
