Decline of society? You bet!

Posted by Peter Rosa on Fri Jan 14 13:07:37 2022

Looters are breaking into containers on Union Pacific trains in Los Angeles and leaving yards and trackside areas strewn with discarded boxes. Actually, what really illustrates the decline of society is not so much that there are thieves, they've always been with us, but that the Jalopnik article is at least somewhat sympathetic toward them.

Holy shit, did the author really justify the savagery? "Shit's been real" "The billionaires got 54% richer"..

Shoot to kill. Sends a message. At least that's what I hear.

I don't for a microsecond believe these train raids are the works of desperate homeless people. They sound like something organized, probably run by one or more of the countless gangs in Los Angeles.

The problem is that you are thinking rationally. You need to think emotionally like a woke leftist.

LA has been on the decline. Not every area reflects this, but for sure the moreso leftist influenced areas seem to have been going in that direction.

I wish to ride their legacy subway fleet before they're replaced in a few years, but with the way things are going there it's becoming more of a hope than a future reality.

Rail theft soars on L.A. tracks (Re: Decline of society? You bet!)

This newer L.A. Times story is better written: ‘It’s ugly out there’: Rail thefts leave tracks littered with pilfered packages, and there's a corresponding Twitter Moments collection that doesn't add much beyond a 10-second clip. Interesting that a substantial time lag seems to have persisted between the initial group moving out and others going in behind them in to pick the sites clean of items with decent resale values.

The Dems in LA should order the railroad to hold the train so the thugs don't get run over while picking the car clean when the train began moving!

UP has all but accused the LA DA of not prosecuting by saying that they have arrested hundreds over the last few months, yet have not been called to testify in court even once. And also stating that they're seeing the same previously arrested people over again who taunt them by saying that there's nothing that they (UP) can do.

I feel like most people must look at these situations and think that progressive criminal justice reform isn't working, but I don't know whether progressives would agree. Do progressives see this is progress and success or do they see this as failure? My guess is that they see this as failure, but not from progressive polices, but the result of legacy policies that put us here. Either way, that's crazy to me.

God-fearing honest patriots must be Firm and upstanding and by all means, remain VIGILANT!
Way too many corrupt Officials are soiling the Office that they were elected to.
Honest patriots must be firm and keep VIGILANT!
In L.A. a VILIGANT Sheriff was VIGILANT by going to the Fed's to
prosecute a cop killer when the current D.A, known to be unwilling to prosecute criminals at all remains in office.

California has recall. It sounds like the citizens of LA County are fine with legalizing crime. The “article” that OP posted is indicative of this mentality.

Newsom asks forgiveness for calling LA train thieves ‘gangs’—‘They’re organized groups’ (Decline…)

Posted by Olog-hai on Sat Jan 22 11:28:36 2022, in response to Decline of society? You bet!, posted by Peter Rosa on Fri Jan 14 13:07:37 2022.

YAHOO NEWS

Gavin Newsom clarifies calling train thieves ‘gangs’: ‘Forgive me … They’re organized groups’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom clarified this week that when he called criminals accused of stealing packages from cargo trains in the state “gangs of people” he wasn’t implying the thefts were gang-related.

“This is not one-off,” Newsom said in a news conference near Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Los Angeles on Thursday, according to the Washington Times. “This is organized theft. These are organized gangs of people that are coming out.”

“Forgive me for saying ‘gangs’; that’s not a pejorative,” he clarified. “They’re organized groups of folks that move from site to site.”

The governor announced a multi-agency effort to deter theft, hold perpetrators accountable and clean up the railroad tracks. He said the thieves could be charged under organized crime laws, which would carry harsher penalties, according to FOX 5 in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is infamous for its street gangs.

“When there’s more attention, a bright light on one site, they move to the next site,” Newsom added, according to the Times. “While these folks are arrested as if they’re individuals that are not connected to the whole, and we need to change that.”

Newsom was also criticized for saying the trash along the tracks created by the looting looked like a “third world country.”

Conservatives placed blame on the governor for supporting Democratic policies that they claimed have led to lawlessness.

“Look in the mirror, Gavin,” former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, who challenged Newsom in last year’s recall election, tweeted.

Others pointed out that “third world country” is considered an antiquated term.

“Hello, @GavinNewsom: The term ‘Third world country’ was replaced by ‘developing nation’, like, 25 years ago,” Los Angeles reporter Doug Sovern criticized.

Union Pacific Railroad’s Adrian Guerrero said rising retail theft crime in Los Angeles County over the past year is part of the problem in a Dec. 20 letter to Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon. UP experienced a 160% increase in criminal rail theft in Los Angeles County over the past year.

He's not the only one that has been calling them "gangs" and based on such comments, I did interpret them to mean the local gangs in the area. Now I don't know what is meant because the local gangs would not allow other "organized groups" to come in and rob in their neighborhood like that.
