Some rulrs

Posted by TransitChuckG on Mon Sep 13 01:25:35 2021

ALL train Operators and conductors must be qualified on each line in their division , A Division (IRT) and B Division (BMT and IND .) Why ? reroutes occur.
That means a train operator for the N could not operate a 1 train.New train operators and conductors are assigned to or may have a choice of A Division or B Division. As they gain seniority they can change divisions bur then they must be trained for their new division. It is called A to B or B to A .

I am sure Bill from Maspeth or others can elaborate further .

Yes TSSs can work as a train operator .

If a train operator or conductor is qualified for both A and B divisions, can he/she bid jobs on both divisions?

Yes. This is true. It gives the crew office flexibility in employee assignments.

NYCT Subway employees can not work in Staten Island and vice versa.
MTA's Staten Island rail service is controlled by SIRTOA which is
similar to MaBSTOA and MTA Bus .SIR trains are subject to FRA rules. If
you work for SIRTOA you are an employee of SIRTOA, not NYCT .

As a sidebar: The R211SI cars must be FRA compliant which is why they
are called R211SI .

I am sure Bill from Maspeth,Train Dude, or Randyo might have added info
on the differences between R211 ( NYCT versions) and the R211SI

In the C division, there are some that depending on the job they picked were required to be both A/B qualified as there are work trains/transfers that begin tour in one division and lay up in the other. Since I left trash collectors I heard are now required to be C division and are not assigned to XXL road , and the No. 7 Ash required to be A/B since it picks up Astoria to 57 and may still turn at Dekalb depending on how many collection trucks they are using now.

It seems I read somewhere that a few years ago SIRT was removed from FRA oversight so it no longer has to comply.

SIR didn't have to install PTC like PATH did.

I suppose their version of the R211 will lack Lexan, emergency door release levers, and window gasket pull levers.

Wonder what type of horn they will have ?

I forgot to mention the revenue collectors and signal dolly but I believe the one out of Corona was the only AB train there perhaps that was 3A perhaps Randy might remember

If you mean “AB” as in BMT 67 footers, that would not be possible since the Flushing Line cannot clear 10 ft wide cars. When I was a Tw/M at Astoria on the midnight, the revenue collector picked up both the Flushing and Astoria lines. I know there was a #3A collector on the IRT but I don’t remember what it picked up. The revenue from the Queens collector transferred the night’s money to one of the collectors at T/Sq which then brought the money to a direct collection point with access to the Jay St money room much like the one N/O Lawrence St and the BMT and in Jay St station on the IND.
