The Pelosi Subway removed from Stimulus bill

Posted by Orange Blossom Special on Wed Mar 3 11:00:56 2021

Just like 2008 all over again. "laser focus"
000000
Funding for a rail project near House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s California district that Republicans denounced as wasteful was removed Tuesday from President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus bill.

The Senate parliamentarian ruled the $140 million appropriation wasn’t allowed under the so-called Byrd rule that polices unrelated items in budget reconciliation bills.

Republicans singled out the rail project as an example of unrelated “pork” in the bill, which is being rammed through Congress without Republican support using special rules that allow a simple majority vote in the Senate.

On Tuesday, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) ridiculed the project as Pelosi’s “tunnel of love” ahead of an anticipated vote on the package later this week.

Aides to Pelosi (D-Calif.), who represents San Francisco, had defended the project, saying that ridership for mass transit plummeted during the pandemic, making it reasonable to increase government spending.

“The Senate Parliamentarian has now ruled that the BART extension from San Jose to Santa Clara does not meet the requirements of the Byrd rule because it is part of a pilot project. Therefore, it will be removed from the reconciliation package,” Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said.

A separate $1.5 million allocation for the Seaway International Bridge between Massena, New York, and Canada also will be removed, he said.

“As part of the $30 billion in public transit support, the House included $1.425 billion to help dozens of major transit rail capital projects, including the BART extension from San Jose to Santa Clara.”

I like how Dems want Biden to issue executive orders to circumvent the Senate Parliamentarian. First the Electoral College and now this.

The Dems think they can simply eliminate any aspect of government procedure they doesn't serve their interests. Scary.

They shouldn't circumvent the Senate Parliamentarian, but they certainly should abolish the filibuster entirely, making the parliamentarian's ruling moot. Unlike the Electoral College, the filibuster is absolutely not in the Constitution.

What's scarier is that instead of trying to convince more people to vote for them, the GQP/Trump Party is trying to suppress the vote in order to keep ruling by minority government. And yet you ignore this singularly egregious attempt by the minority party to secure permanent rule. So much for you being a moderate.

It's freigtening the way spider-pig and his party circumvents the will of the people, keeps secrets, and refuses to have any press conferences.
Poor Bidens asks for questions, and he's abruptly cut off, and ushered out of the room.

Don’t give me crap about ruling by minority government. When the Dems aren’t in charge of the House and Senate, they squawk plenty about “minority party rights” and make trouble for the other party.

I’m sick of Democratic apologists trying to portray them as being clean as the driven snow. Democrats are just as selfish and corrupt as Republicans. It’s all part of the Washington swamp. They are all in it to protect their political asses and their big donors. Period.

You really believe that:

· requiring photo identification to vote and then making it difficult to get such identification either by cost or through limited locations to do so and choosing which forms of identification to accept based on the perceived voting patterns of those who hold such identification

· proposing legislation to strip the people of the right to directly choose presidential electors (Arizona)

· having equal Senatorial representation for a state with fewer than 600K as a state with almost 40 million people

is (attempted) rule by minority government?!?

Then why has the liberal press given the Santa Clara extension that nickname, eh? The SF Chronicle and SJ Mercury News both use the nickname.

You have a very odd knee-jerk compulsion to defend some of the worst godless leftists in this country's politics. That is called wasting your life. What gives rise to this compulsion of yours?

What does ANY employment in transit have to do with covid? What does an infrastructure project previously greenlit by the GOP have to do with keeping Americans employed in union jobs with healthcare in case they become infected? What does snidely calling it the "Pelosi" subway have to do with whether it is deserving of CONTINUED Federal support? Clearly the GOP--who gave away the store in the tax dodge bill several years ago--have flip flopped to their deficit hawk stinginess when it comes to something actually socially useful. Make them wait in the rain for the cancelled buses.

The Covid bill should be for helping out the unemployed as a result of this democrat induced plandemic only. Nothing else. And ridership will never reach the levels they were prior to the scamdemic. People will be so comfortable working from home, most will not return to commuting. Any be start and rail extensions will be a compete waste of money.
