That was two days after they stopped making Edsels (my third birthday!). Was there a derailment? It had to be spectacular if seven BMT standards were wrecked. They were damn near indestructible.

The Peter Witts and PCC streetcars - and also, the trackless trolleys - all had a numeral font type (on their front, sides and back) that would later be prevalent on the last Old Look buses (7000's and 9000's) of the TA fleet when originally delivered, as well as all the New Looks and up to the RTS's and the 1990's abandonment of the 'M' logo and the off-kilter 'MTA' logo taking its place. It apparently dated to at least the 1930's if not earlier.

I'm only suggesting that even if some of the cars had anti-climber damage, and/or any other minor damage, the decision to retire and no doubt cannibalize them for parts had all to do with replacement R27/30 cars on the horizon.

Could very well be. They may have been thinking, "Well, new cars are on the way, anyway."

Not transit related, but on this date in 1964, the Verrazano Bridge opened to traffic. November 21 was a Saturday that year as well. I read that there were humungous traffic jams.

Yeah, 1964 was 56 years ago. Calendars from 28 years apart will always be identical (and any multiple thereof). So, 1964 = 1992 = 2020 = 2048, etc.

2076 will be identical but not 2104 since 2100 will not be a leap year.
