Cudahy Tuscarora Almanac – October 25, 1960 – The Book of First Runs Pennsylvania Station, New York Pennsylvania Railroad The first E-44 electric locomotive is delivered to the Pennsylvania Railroad. The E-44’s were built by the General Electric Company and were numbered 4400-4459 and were built between 1960 and 1963. A second group of engines known as the E-44a’s were built between 1962 and 1963 and were number 4460-4465. Tuscarora Almanac – October 25, 1989 – The Book of Last Runs Edgewater, New Jersey New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad Freight service comes to an end on the Edgewater Branch. Tupaczewski Tuscarora Almanac - October 25, 2000 - The Book of Wrecks The Bronx, New York New York City Transit Authority IRT Division Two out of service No 4 trains were involved in a crash on the center track of the IRT Jerome Avenue Line in The Bronx. The first train had cars (S) 1370-69-68-67-66/1526-27-28-29-30 (N). It struck the rear of another train which had cars (S) 1381-2-3-4-5/1365-4-3-2-1 (N). Car 1369 was badly damaged and was stored in the IND Concourse Yard for several years before being scrapped. 1366-67-68 and 70 were stored at the IND 207 Street Yard. 1366 and 1370 were later sent to the Fire Department training Unit on Randalls Island while 1367 and 1368 were reefed. No special bodywork, just serious power. The demise of electric freight because of CR-Amtrak enmity was a mistake. |

Very similar situation with the Virginian EL-C/New Haven EF-4, of which the E44 is actually a derivative design. The EF-4s had a reputation on the New Haven as reliable engines which could pull and pull forever. |
