Tuscarora Almanac – October 25, 1905 – The Book of First Runs

New York City takes over operation of the Whitehall Street-Saint George Ferry from the Staten Island Railway Company
The inaugural run is made by the MANHATTAN departing from Whitehall Street at 11:30 AM. Passing Liberty Island she is joined by her sister boats of the “Five Boroughs” class; BRONX, BROOKLYN, QUEENS and RICHMOND.

The first E-44 electric locomotive is delivered to the Pennsylvania Railroad. The E-44’s were built by the General Electric Company and were numbered 4400-4459 and were built between 1960 and 1963. A second group of engines known as the E-44a’s were built between 1962 and 1963 and were number 4460-4465.

Freight service comes to an end on the Edgewater Branch. The line was embargoed due to falling rock in the tunnel under the Palisades.

Tuscarora Almanac - October 25, 2000 - The Book of Wrecks

Two out of service No 4 trains were involved in a crash on the center track of the IRT Jerome Avenue Line in The Bronx. The first train had cars (S) 1370-69-68-67-66/1526-27-28-29-30 (N). It struck the rear of another train which had cars (S) 1381-2-3-4-5/1365-4-3-2-1 (N). Car 1369 was badly damaged and was stored in the IND Concourse Yard for several years before being scrapped. 1366-67-68 and 70 were stored at the IND 207 Street Yard. 1366 and 1370 were later sent to the Fire Department training Unit on Randalls Island while 1367 and 1368 were reefed.
