The wall on the left looks like the separator between the station tracks and bypass tracks, rather than the outside wall, so that would make it the via tunnel track.

What is with the raised walkway below the platform on the right side.
If that is the "B" car, what happened to the lead car(s).

I noticed that too. Maybe randyo or someone else here can explain.

If that is the "B" car, what happened to the lead car(s).

I wonder if the lead car picked the switch that should be behind the photographer.

The letter B denoted a permanently coupled, three-car set of motor cars.

What is with the raised walkway below the platform on the right side.

I recall those at DeKalb Ave. in 1950s before the station platforms were extended northward. They were on the curve at the south end of the platform. There was in a gap between train doors and platform, and it appeared that these were to catch anyone who may have fallen into the gap. (Just speculation on my part.)

Your speculation is correct. :-)

And the light bulbs under the edge of the platform were to call attention to the gap.
