Posted by kp5308 on Wed Aug 12 19:42:16 2020 Red:Green: CSX Blue: All 3 posed at the sand tower. The GP30 rebuild is ex-Santa Fe & the switcher is ex-Lackawanna: Silver: NS Black plus Black/White/Red: And the winner of the Employee Paint Scheme Contest getting the masking for the lettering done. Andy said he wanted something colorful: John told me that all 4 ex-CSX SD50s will get these colors. An RBMN diamond will go on the nose: The winner related that he got the idea for the colors from one of the Norfolk Southern GE rebuilds: The work on ex-Reading T1 4-8-4 #2102 has picked up considerably. Due to the dip in traffic on the freight side some of the mechanical staff has been reassigned to the restoration. Steam up is a real possibility by the end of the year: Karen & I will be riding behind the Blue Mountain Blue #425 this Saturday on one of the Lehigh Gorge Scenic trips. The railroad is celebrating the victory over the borough's efforts to tax the service by running trips this Friday, Saturday & Sunday with the 4-6-2: The restoration shop is built on the site of the Reading's 19th century Port Clinton engine terminal. When RBMN got comfortable with the viability of the railroad Mr. Muller decided to dig out the 75 ft. turntable pit and build a welded table from scratch to fit. Well, Al Keller found a historic table that fit out in western PA & the shop forces had no trouble dropping it in. The pole barn roundhouse structure started with the three stalls in the middle & got the other 2 stalls added at separate times. The one on the left is for #2102 and the one on the right is for passenger car work: |

I've said it in the past, and I'll say it again, NOTHING beats the experience of riding right behind a COAL-fired steam locomotive!! Me and my son got rained on with ash, it was great. An oil-fired steam locomotive is like a jeep with 2 wheel drive. |

Saw the newly painted loco where the wooden car that you could take your picture used to be, and the tank car with water. |

You're not going to win that argument with the ATSF or SP during steam days. Oil helped them cross expanses of desert without having to worry about fueling problems. And what about early steam days in the US when most locomotives were wood-burners? Back in the beginning of steam in Britain, steam locomotives were ordered by law to burn coke so they could "consume their own smoke". In Hawaii and other places with sugar plantations, locomotives burned sugar cane. |
