BMT vs IND Brake Question

Are there any differences in the way air brakes are handled on old BMT cars (i.e. AB and D types) versus IND R1-9s?

Except for the BMT brake valve being mounted on the left side of the cab instead of the right, not really. However, being slightly newer and more advanced, the Ds and R-1/9s were probably a bit more responsive than those on the ABs.

The magnet valves were interchangeable, were they not? I vividly remember the, "tchhhhhhh" sound the BMT standards made as they came to a full stop, as well as the, "tch-ssssss" sound on the R-1/9s. Although I never rode on the Triplexes, I understand they had the same magnet valve as the R-1/9s.

Not only that but I remember hearing an R-1/9 stopping at Essex Sr ad the release was like a steel rather than form an R-9. DO Yd must have had a UE5 left over from a steel and stuck it into an R-9.
