Not just the Jet Blue sign but that location is unique and I doubt able to be confused with any other place on the transit system.

Ah.

I remember TV commercials in the ‘70s stating that the advertised items were available at Jamesway and TSS/Seedman’s.

Nycsubway.org has some R-30 photos from the TSS roof.

I went to the one at Linden Blvd and Elderts Lane. Would get records there when I didn't want to go downtown to A&S (or even into midtown to Gimbels). It was a 2-level store (ground level and a basement) and the cool part was it had escalators without steps so you could take the shopping carts from one level to the other. I think around 1971 or 1972, the B10 was extended from Newlots/Berriman to Linden/Elderts to serve the store, allowing for a one-seat ride for my grandmother and I when we wanted to go. Also, the B14 was extended from Sutter Av down Elderts Lane to Linden.

Looks like a multiplex theater is there now

An escalator without steps? Was it some kind of motorized slanted ramp? How did you stand on it without falling backward?

They have that at the Target on Queens Blvd. Regular escalators for the people, and up and down escalators with guides for shopping carts between them. I seem to recall them at the former KMart location on Metroplitan Ave also, going up to the parking.

They have the same kind of escalator ramp at the Brooklyn Coscto at 39th St. and Third Ave. It's a more gentle pitch than a regular escalator.

Many of us remember when the building next door had the huge Pan American sign -- you can still see the outline of the plane wing on the scaffolding.

Is that Boston? I visited Boston in 1957 and was amazed at how dangerous the escalators felt, especially while descending.

These were early escalators, prior to regular steps. Many I understand have been replaced, though I've used a couple of these with the shallow-not-quite-steps. I don't remember where.

They really don't deserve to be classified as escalators, in my view. What they really are are inclined conveyor belts, with a continuous loop that carries passengers from one end to the other. The "steps" are just like saw-tooth notches in the belt that keep people from slipping downward, and they never worked terribly well at that.

I imagine there were way more accidents than occur these days, but on the other hand, they must have been less gruesome. Since there were not actually separate steps with combs to connect each one, there was no way to get trapped and/or drawn in between them and get mangled or torn to shreds.

Here is the TSS Middle Village rooftop photo I mentioned.

As a kid I could just start and the views all day. M trains. LIRR activity. Departures from JFK and LGA. It was fun. Now the rooftop is closed.

If you walk west on the roof there is a great view of NYC skyline. You can see every direction for miles.

Sadly the view of Fresh Pond Yard us obstructed by a building that wasn't there when I was a kid staring in awe at the visible trains.
