"Normal service" would be hard pressed with out the 32s.
These aren't anything like normal times,so NORMAL SERVICE IS IMPOSSIBLE to operate.🙄

How ever, the MTA is providing services for those whom need it most...not for joy riding.
If all the non Full cab trains are not needed, then they are not needed.

The illness is Real.
And it's affecting more front line people than PRESIDENT TRUMP can lie about.

The other 60FT SMEEs ran smoother, no bucking, reliable A/C, brakes released fairly quickly, etc. R38/R40/42s >>> the R32s IMO. Prior to posting on railfan message boards I never saw the R32 as this oh so great car compared to other trains in the fleet at the time, Don't get me wrong I enjoyed riding them on the C, E and F lines back then but I didn't put the cars on a pedestal.

Which is a good reason to place them ALL over to the East.
The A can keep its 118 179s since they are built to 5 car specs just for the A line.

The C has just under 100 cars, and they make the majority of service with a few R46 sets helping out.

I wholeheartedly disagree. In 1969/70 I was a vacation relief M/M and had a chance to operate everything that ran on the NYCTS from the Qs up to the R-42s and even the Lo-Vs. While I preferred the prewar equipment over the newer rolling stock I found the R-32s to be the best accelerating and braking of all the SMEEs and definitely smoother and superior to anything that came later from the 38s up to the 42s. The R-38s were definitely the worst braking of the newer cars and especially difficult to graduate to a final smooth stop. The cars would either roll too far or else make a hard stop with even the slightest movement of the brake valve. One of theM/M breaking me in on them described them as having a "10 foot roll."

Yes they were.

But they always got the job done. I never pushed them hard, just notched up the controller one point at a time to get the best out of them. I had no complaints about the brakes.

I enjoyed operating them, despite them being in bad shape, except the 8250-8411 group which they overhauled and cleaned up.

I just looked it up and saying you are correct would be an understatement. Standards had 1 motor per truck on the motor cars, each motor was 140 HP or 280 HP per motor car. Considering that a motor car weighed about 18,000 Lbs. more than an R32, it's amazing that they were able to move when loaded.

The difference between the steels and the R-1/9s was that the R-1/9s had the standard configuration of 1 motor truck per car with 2 motors and 1 trailer truck whereas the steels had maximum traction trucks with 2 motor trucks, 1 motor per truck to spread the weight. Maximum traction trucks of that type generally don't provide the same amount of pulling power due to less weight per truck. That was the problem that plagued the Qs after they were transferred to the 3 Av el since maximum traction trucks don’t work well with trailers in the consists.
