With all the excitement over open gangway cars and cars being attached in 4 or 5-car sets, why haven't they gone the next logical step and just built articulated units like the multis or the triplexes of old? Will a 10-car open gangway train be 2 5-car open units or one 10-car unit open from end to end? |

Will probably be 5 car sets since OPTO is not likely to be implemented system wide so a place for a C/R cab will be needed in the middle. Not only that but many maintenance barns cannot handle a complete 600 ft train so trains will have to be cuttable in either 5 car units or 4 cars for the BMT eastern. |

I think it might just be a trick of perspective and different coloring, but the first door might be wider. It looks like the accessibility sign on the floor is next to the first door so that would make sense if true. |

Something like:CC### Where CC is the last 2 digits of the contract number. Increment CC by one when say 11999 is reached, because the likelihood of consecutive contract numbers going to subway cars again is low (last was R142-R143). If it's a split order (base, A, B, whatever) incrementing CC by one for each variant would also work. |

True, but would this exceed that of the 75' cars that already operate through most of the B division? Just wondering.I realize that, unlike in olden BMT days, the desire for standardization now often outweighs creative thinking, despite the fact that none of the newer batches of high technology rolling stock can operate together in revenue service. |

So this means that the SIR(T) R44s will make it to almost 50 years, IF there are no delays. And by the way things have gone, they might actually reach their semi-centennial... |

Originally numbered 93XXX (I rode 93086 on the Q48 during a visit to NY in June 1994. Was staying at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza by LGA (now a different chain), and used the Q48 to get to the 7 to get into Manhattan (and once to get to a Mets game). Subsequently, they were renumbered into a 3-digit series (200s?)I don't think there were any other 5-digit classes, but I could be mistaken. Down here in South FloriDUH, Miami-Dade Transit has been 5 digits for years. Sequence is YYTXX, where YY = last 2 numbers of year ordered, T = type* and XX just numbers 01-99 *T codes 1, 2 - standard 40-foot buses 3 - less than 40-foot buses 4 - not used 5 - Articulated buses (60/62 foot) 6 - Not used 7 - Over-the-road coaches 8,9 - Not used Broward County Transit (BCt) has used a simple YYXX since they were formed in the 70s, but later this year they are getting in a 146 (I think) bus order from Gillig, so they will be switching to YYXXX. The first bus (20001) is already on the property, and has been painted in a new livery. Once it (or others) hit the streets, I'll try to get a pic and post here. Forgot to mention, BCT has some over-the-road coaches for their express services on I-95, I-75 and I-595. Those buses are YYXX with an "X" added after the numbers. Right now they have 1425X-1429X, 5001X-5009X and 1701X-1730X. I don't know if they have ordered any more. |
