With all the excitement over open gangway cars and cars being attached in 4 or 5-car sets, why haven't they gone the next logical step and just built articulated units like the multis or the triplexes of old?

Will a 10-car open gangway train be 2 5-car open units or one 10-car unit open from end to end?
